Brief: Secret 7” takes 7 tracks from 7 of the best-known musicians around and presses each one 100 times to 7” vinyl. They invite creatives from around the world to interpret the tracks in their own style for every 7”. 700 sleeves are exhibited and then sold for £50 apiece.
I will create designs for two of the songs available this year: John Lennon's Imagine and Etta James' At Last.
Background Considerations: You don’t know who created the sleeve, or even which song it’s for, until you have parted with your cash. This is because the rules are to not include any type or image of the musician, just an artistic representation of the song, in whatever form you work in.
As with previous years, there's a mix of styles from hand-drawn illustrations to digital work to screen prints and a selection of 3D works.
I will have to look into the history of the songs I choose and represent their origins, connotations, genres and time periods accurately.
Requirements:
- Blog appropriate, conceptual research pertaining to each song.
Deliverables:
- Cover design for Imagine by john legend
- Cover design for At Last by Etta James
