Secret 7: At Last - Development

I began the process by scanning in a vinyl. I wanted to play with the image and literally connote the idea of the vinyl inside. It also created my first shape for me to then layer things on top of.
I then went on to create a pattern inspired by those mentioned in my last post. I began by scanning in bubble wrap and editing the prints with various saturation/ image tracing and my tablet to create fingerprint-like stamp shapes, which were organize into a repeat pattern. I made the conscious effort not to make the circle too uniform. The uneven hand-finish looks more lovable and authentic to the examples I shown prior. I really like this pattern and played with it for a while before moving on to other elements and realising perhaps it can't be so bright with other things like colour yet to added.

Moving on from pattern I began to look at texture. The original cover has a textured surface in which the colours lie unevenly. I wanted to mimic this effect. Working with the colour palette I experimented with overlaying pattern on texture, playing with opacities and depth. I also added a radial gradient to again add depth and even more texture.

The positioning of the lines were based on the original type. The colours were also kept. The cover is already great and I want to create a visual, non-type/image version. The lines were free-handed and were the same width and height as the original letters. I like how representative of the original letters they are, not withdrawing from the original album.

I finished by playing with opacities and saturation. Editing each layer accordingly. The final piece is less saturated and simple. The bright colours began to look garish and distracting, as well as the low opacity pieces.
